the vision for rancho las canas

Our Original Vision For The Property
Rancho Las Canas was first chosen by us because it exudes a unique and very special feel from most properties in the region. There is an immediate sense of openness and possibility.
The land feels peaceful, but not isolated.
Grounding, yet full of potential.
The original vision was simple at its core. It was about creating a place where life could be lived at a healthier pace. A place where daily routines could revolve more around sunlight, seasons, food production, creativity, and meaningful connection with others.
There was also a strong draw toward the history of the land. Discovering that the property sat along the Old Silver Route and still held the remains of the original farmhouse added a deeper sense of continuity.
It felt like becoming part of a longer story rather than starting something entirely new.
The intention was never to build something overly developed or disconnected from the surrounding environment. The goal was to allow the land to guide its own evolution. Ideas included regenerative agriculture/permaculture, small scale homesteading, shared living possibilities, and spaces where people could reconnect with nature and themselves.
As you will discover in the Before and After page of this website, we made massive steps in that direction, getting the land permaculture ready, installing a greenhouse, updating the casita, preparing the build site for water and electricity, and land rehabilitation and restoration of various kinds.
As life unfolded for us in an unexpected direction, it became clear that Rancho Las Canas might ultimately serve someone else who shares these same values and feels a pull toward building a different kind of life.
Rather than holding onto the property, and the vision we intended for it, it felt more meaningful to pass it forward to someone who sees its potential and feels called to continue shaping its future.
Rancho Las Canas has always been about possibility, patience, and thoughtful growth. That intention remains part of the land today and your vision can carry it forward to the next level.
There is a caretaker couple across the road from the property who are available to assist the new owners with maintenance and upkeep of the property. He is a blacksmith for any ironwork projects you might have, and she has a special connection with plants. They also know who to call for any kind of work that is needed on the property (plumbing, electrical, backhoe operator, etc).
